Siu Lap City
About This Spot
Nestled on a bustling stretch of Milam Street in Houston’s vibrant East End, Siu Lap City welcomes you with a straightforward charm that feels unmistakably local. It’s the kind of place where the pace hums just a touch slower than the city outside, inviting you to settle in as the savory aromas from the kitchen gently drift through the air. The atmosphere here leans even more toward no-frills comfort than polished presentation, creating a space that’s approachable and warm in its own understated way.
Inside, there’s a quiet rhythm as plates of classic Chinese barbecue—succulent pork belly with crisp edges, richly glazed roast ducks, tender spare ribs—are carefully arranged alongside simple vegetable sides and steaming bowls of rice. It’s a spot where diners often come with an appetite for variety, piecing together meals that mix well-loved staples with surprising specialties like spicy shrimp or lemongrass chicken, all meant to be savored slowly or carried away for later enjoyment. The modest surroundings encourage you to focus on the food itself and the shared moments that unfold around the table.
Many who return here appreciate the honest value Siu Lap City brings—generous portions meant for hearty, satisfying meals—and the familiarity of dishes that evoke home-style flavors rather than flashy reinventions. The experience strikes a delicate balance: the buzz of a neighborhood favorite paired with a genuine, unpretentious sense of welcome. It’s a place where early visitors often capture the freshest offerings, letting the warm plates and lively aromas speak for themselves before the lunch crowd rolls in.
This is no place for extravagant dining rituals but rather for those who find joy in the everyday pleasure of well-loved recipes and humble ambiance. At Siu Lap City, the simple act of sharing Chinese barbecue and time with others feels grounded, real, and quietly rewarding.

Good value Chinese BBQ restaurant that offers all the classic choices and the ability to pick multiple in a single plate. It’s definitely not the best I’ve had, the BBQ pork was on the drier side and the sauces are all extra, but for the variety you get it’s good if you want a wide spread for a plate. The portion size was good for the price, although the portions of meat were not even (I definitely got more BBQ Pork than duck). Decent amount of indoor seating.

Had the BBQ and roast pork with steamed rice for lunch. Also had some chillie Fried wings and pork ribs. The pork was very good. The rice and wings were also good but let down by not being hot as they should be. Happy to try them again and hopefully the steamed rice and Fried wings will be hot. Than you.

Prices have been going up lately but this place has best barbecue pork (char siu) and roasted pork that I have tried around Houston. Make sure you go early when the food is freshly made. Otherwise, you may be eating food that has been sitting out and cold
